My name is Gregory Brett, and I love maths, and I credit this to the great teachers I had, and this led to me choosing the subject for my undergraduate degree. A big part of my passion for maths lies in problem solving, and when a couple of family friends asked me to help their daughters with their GCSE revision, where I discovered a new form of problem solving, which occurred through teaching, and it inspired me to start tutoring professionally.
I began tutoring Maths in 2019 during my Bachelor's degree, both with family friends, and then taking on private clients from year 9 to year 13. After graduating I became an 'academic mentor', a government funded position created following the pandemic, to have a full time staff member in school to teach children worst affected by hybrid education due to Covid-19. I worked in a primary school with several children with special educational needs, expanding my experience to more ages and abilities.
I am very flexible with my approach to teaching, as I understand sometimes students and guardians will have a very clear idea of what areas they're struggling in, and I will be prepared to focus very specifically on that, but that's not always the case. In that situation, I like to start by working through a series of questions from a wide variety of topics to identify any areas of weakness. I can set homework to speed up this process, but I recognise how tough the workload on pupils already, so will only do this should both student and guardian ask me.
