I am a qualified English teacher, gaining my QTS PGCE at Edge Hill University. I also graduated with a First Class Honours degree in English Language and Literature. My students describe me as a highly motivated, dedicated teacher, who ensures that pupils are set high expectations to achieve the best outcome that they can.
I teach English Language and Literature at Secondary level and have experience teaching the AQA and Edexcel board for GCSE English Language and Literature, including topics, such as A Christmas Carol, An Inspector Calls, Romeo and Juliet, Macbeth and the Power and Conflict Anthology.
I have regularly tutored students, who have progressed from a Grade 3 to a Grade 6. Despite the impact of Covid, many students I have taught have progressed from a Grade 5 to a Grade 8.
In addition, I have tutored students A-Level English Language, exploring topics, such as child language development, the language of power and politics, and non-fiction analysis.
I also have experience proofreading dissertations in subjects, such as English and Law.
I first ensure that I recognise what the pupils already know and address any gaps in learning. My teaching approach is breaking the lesson into a few tasks, with a blend of teacher-based learning and student-based learning. I regularly and consistently use assessment for learning to check the progress of students, which can be in the form of recall activities and practice questions. Most importantly, I ensure that students' analytical skills are strengthened and the pupils are able to accurately identify subject terminology (grammar) through exam practice.
