As a highly motivated and empathetic professional based in Gravesend, I bring a unique blend of over five years of dedicated experience supporting children in primary school settings, with a significant focus on Special Educational Needs (SEN) and Social, Emotional, and Mental Health (SEMH) difficulties. My recently completed BSc (Honours) in Psychology with Counselling provides me with a deep understanding of child development, learning processes, and effective communication strategies. I am passionate about creating a supportive and engaging learning environment where every child feels understood and empowered to reach their full potential.
My extensive experience in primary school environments includes over five years as a Teaching Assistant and Cover Supervisor across Key Stage 1, 2, 3 and 4. I have provided significant 1:1 support for students with diverse needs, including ASD, ADHD and dyslexia. In these roles, I developed and implemented tailored learning resources, led literacy and numeracy interventions (including RWI Phonics), and fostered positive learning environments.
I have professional and lived experience of SEND, being neurodivergent myself and raising four neurodivergent children, I believe this provides me with invaluable knowledge and understanding to support the educational and learning needs of those with SEND.
My teaching philosophy is deeply rooted in person-centred and strength-based approaches. I believe in tailoring every session to the individual needs and unique learning style of the child, ensuring they feel confident, motivated, and excited to learn. I focus on building strong rapport and creating a safe, understanding space where children feel comfortable exploring challenges. I am adept at developing bespoke, engaging learning resources and implementing effective strategies for academic progress, especially in literacy and numeracy. Beyond academics, I prioritise emotional well-being, providing strategies for focus and confidence building. My aim is not just to teach subjects, but to equip children with essential learning skills and a lifelong love for knowledge.
