I am a fourth year medical student at the University of Cambridge, having graduated from my pre-clinical studies last year with First Class Honors.
I came from a school back in Northern Ireland with little to no help available for the application to medical school. Via private tuition and a lot of hard work, I managed to develop the skills and know-how to achieve offers from all four of the medical schools to which I applied (Bristol, Cambridge, Edinburgh, and St Andrews).
I remember distinctly the apparent impossibility of the challenge of the medical school application. There is so much to learn, so much they could ask you, so many exams and different forms of preparation to juggle. However, my tuition made it much clearer to me what I had to do, and how to do it. I hope to pass this clarity on to all my students.
Furthermore, over the course my years here, I have amassed a huge amount of knowledge from teachers and peers about the application process that is current and up to date, which I can use to guide students to the most successful application possible.
I am truly passionate about ensuring that all those students who truly want to be doctors get that opportunity, and are given every possible advantage through the correct preparation.
Ever since joining Cambridge, I have amassed hundreds of hours of tutoring experience. I have tutored students for the interview here, and at other medical schools, with the vast majority going on to become successful applicants. I have tutored the UCAT, where a systematic approach has led to every student significantly increasing their score.
My teaching approach is, above all, flexible. Different students have different priorities, and learn best in different ways.
For interview sessions, I can provide mock interviews, whereby lessons consist purely of practice questions and feedback, or I can provide more instruction. Especially with the Oxbridge interview, there is a lot of scientific content to be known, and I also enjoy teaching that in a more traditional sense.
With regard to UCAT lessons, I can focus on techniques for specific sections, or going through past papers, or any hybrid of the two.
