Enthusiastic, positive and motivational, as a maths teacher and tutor for over 20 years, I am passionate about boosting mathematical confidence, nurturing a ‘can do’ attitude and increasing subject enjoyment, whilst helping students reach their potential - whatever that may be.
Throughout a teaching career in comprehensive secondary schools in Surrey, Worcestershire and Herefordshire, I have taught across the age and ability range and have developed a range of skills and techniques to enable students to engage with their maths and achieve excellent results.
With a 100% grade 4/grade C and above tutee success rate over the years, I have worked with numerous students to stretch them academically both at foundation and higher tier levels. For example, with a tailored approach based on each individual, grade 2s have become grade 4s, grade 7s have become grade 9s etc. I pride myself on the increased level of confidence and understanding I have helped develop in each student I have tutored.
Engaging resources, making maths ‘real’ and fun, as well as building positive relationships with students, are all crucial to my success as a tutor.
I believe strongly that an ‘I can’t do it’ mind set can be transformed into an ‘I can’t do it yet’ approach. My tutoring sessions help develop a much more optimistic attitude to maths, which enables tutees to take a big step in the right direction and achieve greater things, both in their studies of maths and beyond.
With great patience and a variety of ways to approach concepts, I adapt techniques and resources to the relevant stage of each student’s education and we work at a pace that’s appropriate to them, which is often not possible in a classroom environment.
Each tutee is provided with an individual plan, which we revisit at the end of each session to celebrate successes and plan together for future sessions.
I’m happy to have an initial chat or mini tutoring session to see if online tutoring is right for you/your child.
