Physics and Chemistry Tuition in Southwark

After achieving a First Class MChem in Chemistry at the University of Manchester, I have just completed a second master's degree at Imperial College London, from which I am advancing into PhD research. Despite my recent achievements, the route to success has not always been a straight road. Throughout my academic journey, I have learned how to study efficiently and effectively, how to prioritise my time and, importantly, how to maximise marks. I am passionate about sharing what I have learned through my experiences so that younger students don't make the same mistakes that I did - I am patient, empathetic and I want to help.

Tutoring Experience

I spent the final two years of my time at Manchester mentoring undergraduate chemistry students on all aspects of their course (biological, physical, organic and inorganic chemistry). The most common feedback from my tutees was that I was able to explain concepts which they couldn’t get their 'head around' from group teaching in a way that allowed them to properly understand these theories and therefore apply them in exam-style questions.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to tutoring is structured and methodical. During the first meeting with a tutee, I like to find out the student's perspective on the different parts of the course. We will prioritise the more difficult areas within the context of the specification. I have found that focusing within the specification is an important aspect of maximising marks, although sometimes explanations may venture further if I feel it will aid in understanding.

I am a huge advocate of making mistakes - this is how you learn! My job as the tutor is to guide the tutee towards the right answer, not to tell them it. As such, I structure my sessions so that we go through the problems together before moving on to cover the next topic, allowing ample time for the student to flag up areas of difficulty and for questions to be asked.
