I am a young professional working in science funding, at the Wellcome Trust. I have a PhD in Statistical Epidemiology from the London School of Hygiene & Tropical Medicine, and a Masters and BSc in Biological Sciences from Durham University.
I am a friendly person who is not afraid of helping and teaching others! I am keen to help students achieve their potential, and share my love of science. My academic experience means I know exactly how to tutor a student and help them achieve their academic goals.
I am more than happy to have an introductory chat to get to know potential students before committing.
I have extensive teaching experience, which includes successfully private tutoring for A-level students to gain their top grades required to get into their first choice university courses. I have also taught undergraduate university students for a number of years on various subjects (Biology, coding skills, writing workshops).
I also have specialist writing skills training (for exam questions and coursework) and have provided private one to one tutorials on academic writing for University College London (UCL) This included helping students, including those with English as a second language, improve their writing skills to succeed in assignments and coursework. My unique academic research experience means I have the necessary skills to help students succeed in gaining their desired qualifications.
First and foremost I want tutoring to be a fun and not terrifying experience! In my sessions I strive to ensure the student gains the most from a short amount of time and leave with more confidence in themselves then when they started. I have received formal training from UCL on conducting tutorial sessions, including key techniques that ensure results.
I am happy for the tutee to set out the topic for each session if they know exactly what they need to focus on - for this I can prepare a more formal session with clear goals.
Alternatively, the session can be informal and more creative!
I can also provide general revision sessions, focused on learning, memorising content and study skills.
If writing skills are required, for example to practice answering exam questions or for coursework, I can provide a writing focused session.
