Online English Tuition

I am a recent graduate of English currently working as an au pair in Paris. I hope to begin my Master's in Contemporary English Literature in September 2021 in preparation for a career in literary academia.
I completed my Bachelor of Art's in English at the University of Bristol, graduating with a strong 1:1 (74) in July 2020. During my time at university, I attained consistently high grades in all my written coursework; my final year dissertation received a grade of 76, while several of my shorter essays were published in undergraduate academic journals.
I have always been passionate about English Literature and Language, and am skilful at engaging with others to find some kind of shared interest or a compelling discussion point.

Tutoring Experience

Due to the continuation of Covid restrictions, I decided to take a year out before undertaking my postgraduate studies of English. I am currently working as an au pair and English language tutor in Paris. Alongside my conventional childcare duties, I employ a variety of formal and informal methods to improve the English language comprehension of the children in my care. Having been studying towards my TEFL certificate since graduation, I feel comfortable tutoring both non-native and native English speakers on the intricacies of the English language.
While at university and Sixth Form, I acted as an academic mentor for students in lower years. In this role, I offered general advice on essay writing and exam technique, as well as assisting with specific coursework queries. During school, I attained consistently high grades in English Language and Literature; both my GCSE and A-Level coursework received grades of 100% and were used as exemplars for several years. I also created and ran a creative writing workshop for 11-14-year-olds in my last year of school.

Tutoring Approach

I have no singular teaching method as I understand that different students learn via different methods. I am patient and adaptable in my approach, tailoring my session plans to the individual student.
Although I believe it is essential to study the specific requirements and Assessment Objectives for a piece of coursework or exam paper, I aim to improve students' confidence to tackle more general principles such as essay writing techniques and building strong, structured arguments. These skills will equip them to succeed when approaching any kind of written work.
I am keenly aware that the series of national lockdowns and Coronavirus restrictions have had an adverse impact on the education of students everywhere. The aim of my sessions is to restore individuals' confidence when it comes to English, whether that is assisting with official coursework, homework, or more general problem areas, such as struggles with grammatical concepts.
