Jack

Maths and Physics Tutoring in Glasgow

I am an Engineer within the space industry that has worked for two launch vehicle companies in the UK with degrees in both Computer Systems Engineering (BSc) and Space Exploration Systems (MSc). I utilise my experience within the space industry to engage and encourage students to learn through applying maths, science and computer systems concepts to exciting real world scenarios! Each student and their learning goals are unique so each session is tailored to the students needs but I always aim to keep each session varied, engaging and, most importantly, interesting! I offer one-to-one in-person tutoring for Maths, Physics and Computer Science to all ages up to a GCSE standard and can support with exams, tricky topics and teaching beyond the standard curriculum.

Tutoring Experience

I have varied teaching experience spanning children of all ages as well as adults.
I have overseen work experience weeks in industry for students and ran engaging hackathon events for students to learn about space and programming as well. Moreover, I have previously ran adult IT learning courses to help adults learn computer skills and open up more opportunities for them as a result.

My role in recent years has been acting as a systems engineer for complex technical projects where I am regularly required to explain complex topics to technical and non-technical people alike. This experience has driven my approach to tuition in order to most effectively teach topics with the aid of diagrams, interactive presentations, practical demos and discussions in a way that is tailored to the student.

Tutoring Approach

My approach to learning is to first understand a bit more about the student, their interests and learning goals. This may be to improve on a difficult topic, preparing for specific exams or learning beyond the syllabus. I would then tailor the tuition to what works best for the student, whether that may be by interactive real-world demos, practical activities, visual explanations, or through problem sheets and practice.
