Hey there! My name is Jake, and I’m a 24-year-old graduate of the University of Cambridge. I grew up in Oxford and studied at Magdalen College School, one of Oxford’s most prestigious private schools, before pursuing my bachelor’s and master’s degrees at Cambridge. I have a deep passion for English, writing, and psychology, as well as more science-focused subjects such as neurobiology, biology, and mathematics. In my free time, I’m an avid badminton player and chess player. I’m also a writer and have had three of my plays staged at the Corpus Playroom theatre in Cambridge.
I studied Psychological and Behavioural Sciences at the University of Cambridge before completing a master’s in Creative Writing at Cambridge. Prior to university, I achieved an A* in Biology and A’s in English, Chemistry, and Mathematics during my A-levels. For my GCSEs, I achieved a perfect set of ten A*s. At Cambridge, I studied a wide range of modules, including several from Cambridge’s Psychology, Natural Sciences, and Human, Social, and Political Sciences departments. These modules included Evolution and Behaviour, Criminology, Developmental Psychology, Neurobiology, and Behavioural Genetics.
For the last three years, I have tutored students of various ages and levels, including Year 10 and 11 students studying for their GCSEs and students aged 17 and older seeking help in attending their university of choice. I’m happy to offer assistance with general tutoring, as well as specialized support for achieving high GCSE or A-level results, and interview preparation for both secondary school and university admissions.
I believe tutoring should be all about the individual. Everyone learns differently, so I make sure to tailor each session based on a student’s specific needs, interests, and strengths. I often like to use the first session to identify the key areas a student wishes to improve before creating a plan that addresses them in the most efficient way possible. After this I aim to make every lesson engaging, informative, and constructive. If you’re preparing for exams, I’m more than happy to go through specific mark schemes and exam boards to help make sure you are applying your knowledge as effectively as possible. Ultimately, I’m here to help you reach your goals, whether it’s acing your exams or getting into the university of your dreams!
