James

Billericay Maths and Computer Studies / I.T. Tutor

Hi – I’m James. I’ve been tutoring for the last three years, and in that time, I’ve helped more than 30 students achieve the grades they needed to open doors to whatever comes next—whether that’s getting into their dream uni, qualifying for a scholarship, or simply gaining the confidence to pursue their future goals.

I'm a 21 year old Computer Science undergraduate at the University of Nottingham, currently in my final year.

I achieved A-Levels of A*, A, and A in Maths, Computer Science and Physics, as well as 9 A*s at GCSE.

Tutoring Experience

Experienced private tutor, with a track record of lifting grades - here's what some of my students & parents had to say:

Nicole, Parent, GCSE Maths
“We feel very lucky to have finally found a tutor my son connects with and finds engaging. He is feeling more positive about his GCSEs and more confident day by day thanks to James’ tutelage and encouragement. James is young and very relatable this really helps he’s also adept at current mathematical concepts. We are very satisfied with the results so far.”

Karen, Parent, A-Level
“James has been incredible helping my son improve his A level computer science grade. From worrying at one point if he would even pass to now hoping he will achieve a high grade. He is a very reliable and friendly tutor.”

Sarah, Parent, GCSE
“James is an excellent tutor, he has really helped my daughter grow in confidence with maths. James’s lesson plans are well structured and focus on the particular needs of your child. Can’t recommend enough.”

Soham, 14, KS3 / GCSE
“James is a great tutor. Although lacking years of tutoring experience, he makes up for it with his intellect and knowledge of his subjects. He shows passion for teaching which is reflected in his work ethic. Overall, he is an amazing tutor who is very easy to follow, and my results have improved because of his teaching.”

Hima, Parent, GCSE
“James has been my kid's GCSE tutor for more than six weeks. Being a student himself, James is well educated about the most contemporary methods for teaching maths and computer science. My kid claimed that James encouraged him to work out more difficult topics, particularly in Maths, without feeling under pressure. James has also been quite accommodating with the timings. Would strongly recommend!”

Rohan, 14, KS3
“Following my lessons with James, my test scores have increased massively, as has my knowledge and depth of understanding across a range of Maths topics. I have since found Maths lessons more enjoyable and easier to follow.”

Tutoring Approach

I like to spend the 1st lesson establishing my students' needs, by talking to them, asking about previous teacher feedback, exam results, current grade, target grade, etc.

If unsure, or pupil is unclear about the areas most needing improvement, I like to set them a past paper, and watch how they attempt to complete it without any teaching. While they complete this, I take notes on the topics they struggle with, and collate a list of 4-5.

Once I have this, before the 2nd lesson, I create a custom, tailored lesson plan, in order to cover these topics with the student, making sure to incorporate
exam questions as I go, in order to test the students' understanding as we go.

This is my general approach in terms of content, I also tailor the form of content based on what my students respond best to, for example: online videos, written notes, visual diagrams, etc.
