I have most recently been employed as a Maths teacher in an 11-16 secondary school in Norfolk and have been teaching for 21 years. I am now semi-retired and doing a mixture of tutoring and supply teaching. I have a teenage son, who I am pleased to say is an excellent Mathematician! My other interests include science and technology, farming, horticulture and self-sufficiency. I am also a keen gigging musician in my (limited!) spare time.

Tutoring Experience

I achieved QTS in 2003 and worked in an 11-16 school for four years. Here I gained experience as whole school Numeracy Coordinator, Deputy Safe-guarding Lead, Head of Year and whole school Data Manager. In 2007 I moved location and worked in a larger 11-18 school where in 2008 I became Head of Maths and served on the school's leadership team until 2018. I took the decision to relinquish the role and have stayed on as a full time teacher of Maths up to now. Most recently teaching in an 11-16 school in North Norfolk. I already have solid experience of tutoring online from KS3 to GCSE and A-level and am very proud of my student's successes.

Tutoring Approach

I have a passion for my subject and feel it is really important to relate Maths as a subject as far as possible to other curriculum areas, real life and the world around us. I believe it's crucial to make Maths as accessible as possible and I do this using a wide range of strategies and resources to engage my students. Not all students learn in the same way so I always aim to tap in to the student's own learning style during online sessions. My teaching style is to be informal, patient and adaptive so that my students feel comfortable to say when they don't understand and feel at ease asking questions.
