Before teaching I studied Maths at the University of Oxford, obtaining a first in my Bachelors, and then completing a Doctorate in Applied Maths. I am now a qualified teacher with 14 years experience of teaching Maths in 2 leading private schools. When not teaching I am a regular at local parkruns.
I have experience teaching of teaching GCSE, IGCSE, A-level Maths, A-level Further Maths, and University preparation, including Oxbridge. I also have been an Examiner OCR A-level Maths.
I try to ensure the student is as active as possible through the tutoring sessions, with plenty of practice and repetition until everything fully clicks. When specifically preparing for exams I would identify any areas of confusion, gaps in their knowledge. and issues with exam technique. When working more generally, I would aim to find the current ceiling of competency of the student, and then build on from this level. I think it is important to set high standards with the material, including the basics. I also think it important to ensure the tutoring experience is a positive one for the tutee.
