Online Tuition for Biology

I am a Masters graduate with a real passion for biology and medical research, specifically stem cell biology. I was recently accepted onto the Medical Research Council-funded PhD programme in Life Sciences at Kings College London, beginning in September 2020.
My friends would describe me as friendly and easygoing. I enjoy playing for a five-a-side football team weekly, going out and going to gigs.
I'm happy to answer any questions you might have, please don't hesitate to get in touch!

COVID UPDATE: with the currrent lockdown situation I am offering online tutoring instead of face-to-face

Tutoring Experience

I have previously spent time tutoring A level Biology through the Coachbright Volunteering programme where the focus was on helping students become indendent and improving grades through developing confidence and a sustainable work ethic.

Tutoring Approach

In my opinion when it comes to studying biology, the complex nature of the subject means that the best approach to tackling it is working through each area step by step, breaking it down in manageable pieces. With this in mind, my approach to tutoring involves working through specific areas the student finds challenging in a simple, methodical manner that they can also apply independently to their other studies.

However, I also know that sometimes the challenge involves actually committing time to study rather than just a lack of understanding. I have a number of revision techniques which I used during the course of my own studies that I explore with students to find the best fit. These are all centred around deliberate study i.e. being productive with study time rather than just reading through the textbook and not taking anything in (which I have also been guilty of!).

Finally, the unfortunate reality of achieving academic success is that it requires good exam technique as much as actual knowledge. Hence, having completed a topic I walk through the exam questions before having the student practice alone. In addition to providing a good checkpoint to test the students understanding, it is crucial for enabling the student to recognise what kind of answer the examiner is looking for.

COVID UPDATE: Due to the cancellation of this years exams I know many students may have different requirements to normal, such as looking for someone to help them prepare for next year/ just keeping up with the syllabus. Please get in contact so we can discuss what you're looking to gain from tutoring and how I can help!
