English and French Lessons in Bloomsbury

Hi, I’m Jasmine. I’m an undergraduate at the London School of Economics with a passion for teaching, and a love of learning about the world.
I’m here to help your child make sense of studying humanities, and also English and French, having achieved 3 A*s at A-Level in History, Geography and French, and 10 GCSEs all at grade 9.
I’m conscientious, empathetic and versatile; I can tutor A-level and GCSE candidates, as well as primary school students for entrance exams or the 11+.

I enjoy instilling confidence in students to overcome obstacles and find joy in learning. I’m excited to get to know new people and help them grow as learners.

Tutoring Experience

Primary: For a year I independently coached a classroom of year 5 and 6 students in public speaking and debating. As a result, I’ve learnt to adapt my teaching to students with different struggles and strengths, such as those with passion but who may struggle to concentrate in a classroom setting. At the same age I prepared for, and sat 16 exams for secondary school entrance, and was accepted by all the schools I applied to so I’m fully set to coach others through them.

GCSEs: I’ve worked informally with GCSE students through history and geography societies to expand their knowledge and understanding of these subjects, making them feel more prepared for their exams. I’m aware of how stressful these can be, and I will be a friendly face and supportive tutor to make the learning process easier.
A-levels: Having completed my A-levels recently, I’m armed with all my own knowledge and personal learning experiences to pass on to others who have just started year 12 and feel intimidated by the post-GCSE learning curve, and to those in year 13 with exams on the horizon.

Tutoring Approach

The most important aspect of teaching is to inspire curiosity and passion, and to teach skills that enable students to become more independent learners. It is important to balance patience in teaching new and tricky concepts with fun exercises that engage the students, such as using balloon debates or mini competitions as motivation.

I can demonstrate study methods that students can use outside of their tutoring, such as ways to take notes effectively or research content online without being lost in the sprawling depths of the internet.
My own experience as a student means that I am capable of working out new concepts and problems on the fly (this is important with humanities subjects, which can change every day) by approaching and explaining problems from different angles. This is especially helpful if students have been taught something in class but are still struggling to understand.
