English Tutoring in Warley

Throughout my career I have shown my ability to improve the social outcomes and economic opportunities for hard-to-reach, deprived and criminally convicted people. I am a highly experienced lecturer and teacher with a proven track record of turning around failing departments, courses and learners, over two decades, with subject expertise including Employability, Business Enterprise, and Functional Skills (English, Mathematics and ICT). I am highly committed and organised, and I improved the pass rates within my scope at Platinum People from 4.7% (inherited pass rate) to 68% (own learner pass rate) within six months, and under considerable pressure at Francesco Group I played a key role in lifting its OFSTED grading from Grade 3 to Grade 1 and 2 within the first two weeks of my role (just one of several. I also much enjoyed supporting international students with their highly varied needs at BCUIC, Navitas, and inmates with Offender Learning with their many issues at HMP Birmingham, and I am now seeking to apply these skills and interests and to help achieve transformational change for the benefit of people in need across society.

Tutoring Approach

Holistic and Inclusive Teaching Approach
As a dedicated educator, my teaching philosophy is grounded in a holistic approach that recognises and nurtures the diverse needs of every student. I believe that education extends beyond the mere transmission of knowledge; it involves fostering an environment where students can develop intellectually, emotionally, socially, and ethically.

Student-Centred Learning: At the core of my teaching approach is the belief in student-centred learning. I strive to create a classroom atmosphere where students feel valued, heard, and empowered. By incorporating interactive activities, collaborative projects, and real-world applications, I encourage students to take an active role in their learning journey, thereby fostering a sense of ownership and intrinsic motivation.

Differentiated Instruction: Understanding that each student has unique strengths, challenges, and learning styles, I employ differentiated instruction strategies to meet individual needs. This involves tailoring lessons, assessments, and instructional methods to ensure that all students have the opportunity to succeed and reach their full potential. By integrating a variety of teaching tools, such as visual aids, hands-on activities, and technology, I address multiple intelligences and learning preferences.

Emotional and Social Development: I am committed to supporting the emotional and social development of my students. I integrate social-emotional learning (SEL) into my curriculum, teaching skills such as empathy, resilience, and effective communication. Creating a safe and inclusive classroom environment where students feel respected and connected is paramount. I encourage open dialogue, active listening, and mutual respect, fostering a community of learners who support and uplift one another.

Cultural Responsiveness: In today’s diverse society, cultural responsiveness is essential. I strive to incorporate culturally relevant materials and perspectives into my teaching, ensuring that all students see themselves reflected in the curriculum. By celebrating diversity and promoting an inclusive atmosphere, I help students develop a deeper understanding and appreciation of different cultures, preparing them to be global citizens.

Reflective Practice: As an educator, I am committed to continuous growth and improvement. I regularly engage in reflective practice, seeking feedback from students, colleagues, and professional development opportunities to enhance my teaching methods. This commitment to lifelong learning ensures that I remain responsive to the evolving needs of my students and the educational landscape.

Collaborative Partnerships: I believe in the power of collaboration and actively seek to build partnerships with colleagues, families, and the wider community. By fostering strong relationships and open communication, I create a support network that enhances the educational experience for students and promotes a cohesive learning environment.

In conclusion, my holistic and inclusive teaching approach is designed to cultivate a supportive, engaging, and dynamic learning environment. By addressing the intellectual, emotional, social, and cultural needs of students, I aim to inspire a love of learning, encourage personal growth, and prepare students to thrive in an ever-changing world.
