I have been teaching Chemistry, mostly in selective independent schools, for 18 years and have been a Head of Department for 7 years. I have worked as an examiner for Edexcel (Pearson) for several years. I gained my BSc in Chemistry from the University of York and my PGCE from the University of Sussex.
Tutoring Experience
I specialise in the Edexcel Chemistry IGCSE having examined it for over 5 years, although I can teach any IGCSE or GCSE Chemistry specification. I find one to one teaching very beneficial in overcoming barriers to learning which are individual to the pupil.
Tutoring Approach
I have been tutoring since 2010 and base my teaching on working with students to assess their levels of understanding, build confidence in the areas they are semi-proficient in and find different approaches to work through areas which are a problem. I am patient and approachable and like to see the students that I teach succeed. Several of the students that I have tutored have gained places at medical schools and Oxbridge. I have previously tutored using my other name, Jean, so some recommendations refer to that.
