I am currently a Deputy Head of English and teacher of 8 years bringing a wealth of experience within the education sector.
I plan and teach lessons with an aim to encourage independence, enquiry and academic rigour. I have a commitment to holistic teaching, and as a result my last cohort of 80+ Year 11 GCSE students achieved Grades 5+ (87%) and 7+ (35%) in their 2022 GCSE exams.
I have previously examined for AQA and hold an NPQ (National Professional Qualification) in Leading Teaching, allowing me to adapt the curriculum to ensure the needs of students are being met.
My lessons are structured in a way that allows for independent practice and regular retrieval practice, with an aim to develop metacognition and the progress of students.
Tutor of English and Literacy - 2014 - Present
Learning Support Assistant - 2015 - 2016
Teacher of Secondary English - 2016 - 2022
Lead Teacher of English - 2022 - 2024
Deputy Head of English - 2024 - Present
My goal is to make lessons engaging, relevant and structured in a way that ensures sufficient progress.
Lessons typically last for an hour and are split into four parts:
1. Retrieval practice - to assess what you already know
2. Introduction to a new concept, topic, question, etc
3. Modelling and independent practice (I do, we do, you do)
4. Consolidation and plenary.
Lessons are differentiated based on ability, and support/challenge resources are provided to ensure students are meeting or exceeding their targets.
