Jessica

Based in Botley (Hampshire), I am a passionate, organised and driven educator with a wealth of experience across the primary and secondary age ranges.

I have tutoring availability Tuesdays, Wednesdays or Thursdays 5.30-6.30pm.

Tutoring Experience

I am in my tenth year of teaching and have a wealth of tutoring experience. I love teaching and creating personally significant learning opportunities for my students. My classroom teaching experience has predominantly been working with students in the primary age range but I also have experience of tutoring secondary aged students, up until GCSEs.

I hold a Level 5 diploma in specialist teaching for Specific Learning Difficulties (SpLD) and am studying towards a Level 7 qualification which will enable me to formally assess and diagnose dyslexia (this will be on offer at an additional cost from August 2025). I am able to offer a series of multisensory lessons for dyslexia- following the Kelly & Phillips programme, or I can tailor my support to your child's needs. Please note that, if you opt for specialist dyslexia lessons, these are charged at an additional £10 an hour due to the preparation and resourcing required for the lessons. These lessons are bespoke to your child's needs.

I am confident in preparing students for 7+ and 11+ exams including the ISEB and GL assessments. I am also able to assist with wider curriculum support and ensuring that students have concrete understanding of the knowledge needed to succeed in education.

Currently, I am on maternity leave from my full-time role as a SENDCO and Junior School Teacher.

Previously, I lived and taught in Shanghai, China where I developed a deep appreciation for different cultures. With the experience, I am confident in supporting students who are learning English as an additional language.

Additionally, I am confident and experienced in supporting students with additional learning needs and my additional qualifications in Inclusive Practice and Cognitive Psychology demonstrate this.

I have availability from late October 2024.

Tutoring Approach

I am an energetic teacher who focusses on building children's confidence and self-esteem. Ensuring that children are happy and ready to learn is key to academic success. My approach is flexible and works to the needs of the child whilst ensuring stimulation and challenge.
