Hello, I'm Jessica, a former Primary School teacher holding Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with a rich background in education. Over the course of my seven-year teaching career, I've had the privilege of working with various year groups, allowing me to develop a versatile teaching approach.
I have a diverse range of teaching experiences that have enriched my educational journey. In 2014, I completed my PGCE with QTS at Middlesex University, London, marking the beginning of my formal teaching career. Before pursuing my PGCE, I actively sought opportunities to gain valuable classroom-based experience by working in various schools across London. This pre-PGCE phase allowed me to familiarise myself with the dynamics of different educational settings.
Additionally, it equipped me with the ability to manage classroom behaviour effectively, accommodating students ranging from 5 to 11 years old. It was during this time that I also became adept at providing support to pupils with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and those who benefited from visual resources to enhance their learning experience.
Building on this foundation, I have accumulated seven years of primary classroom teaching experience in London and Hertfordshire. My role has exposed me to various school environments and student demographics, allowing me to adapt to different learning styles, work effectively with SEN and English as an Additional Language (EAL) students, and connect with students from diverse backgrounds.
Beyond traditional teaching, I've had the privilege of teaching Yoga to adults on a voluntary basis. This experience further reinforced the importance of patience, time management, meticulous session planning, and clear and concise communication in an entirely different educational context.
In summary, my diverse teaching experiences, ranging from classroom teaching to online tutoring and adult education, have equipped me with a robust set of skills and perspectives. I am passionate about continuing to grow as an educator and look forward to contributing to the learning journeys of my students with enthusiasm and dedication.
In addition to my classroom experience, I have ventured into the realm of Online Tutoring. My prior teaching experiences seamlessly translated into this digital setting, as I honed my time management skills to ensure timely marking of students' worksheets between online sessions. This required me to remain organised, professional, and attentive to assessing learning progress, providing constructive feedback, and tailoring lessons to meet the specific needs of each student.
I possess a keen aptitude for tailoring the learning experience to meet the specific needs of each student, ensuring that any existing learning gaps are effectively addressed before progressing to new material.
Drawing from my own personal experiences as a student who benefited from tutors during both primary and secondary education, I understand firsthand the qualities that make the best tutors stand out. These qualities, including patience, engagement, and encouragement, are attributes I am committed to bringing to every student I have the privilege to tutor.
