Zijie

Hello my name is Joe (my Chinese name is Zijie) and I am starting my first year mathematics integrated masters degree next term at Imperial College London. I was inspired by my own mathematics teacher who worked tirelessly at one o clock in the morning to help students, including myself with A level maths questions, which has motivated me to help others as well!

Tutoring Experience

I have been mentoring GCSE mathematics students when I was studying for my A levels, which the students who went from grade 5/6 (B grade) to grade 8/9 (A* grade). Although I did not take the A levels exams due to COVID-19, I took and successfully obtained two grade 1s in the Sixth Term Examination Papers (STEP 2 and 3)- two challenging maths exams that you must take to get into Cambridge, which took place during the lockdown period. After spending two years of preparing and practicing for the STEP and A level exams I know how difficult these exams are and I have obtained a plethora of techniques to tackle unfamiliar questions which will benefit students’ problem solving skills, which are essential for students who wish to undertake mathematics at A level and university. Also in addition to STEP I have experience in both MAT and the mathematical interview process at Oxbridge so I am very happy to help with interview practice and difficult questions with mathematical admissions tests.

Tutoring Approach

Before the first session I’ll be looking at samples of your past work, this way I can see where the difficulties and misconceptions of topics lie. My sessions are very flexible and are tailored specifically for your learning pace, and I will help you with any topic areas that you have trouble with, and teach you how to simplify them so the question is more approachable. I will set homework assignments after the lesson based on specific difficult topic areas in order to achieve significant improvement in exams.
