English and History Lessons in Cullompton

Since retiring from full time teaching, I have continued tutoring on a part-time level. I have never wanted to do anything else in life, except write and teach! I have contributed to a school text book and three history anthologies. I worked part time for the Open University for nearly 40 years and was a member of the production team for four history TV series. I have taught mainly in England but also in Jamaica and Australia. I like the arts, especially reading and the theatre. Five years ago, I spent my time travelling around the world, visiting 14 counties and teaching on a project for women and girls from disadvantaged backgrounds.in India. I even did a bungee jump in New Zealand. I wrote a book about my travels, called I've Got a Metal Knee: A 70-Year-Old's Gap Year.

Tutoring Experience

I have taught at University, College and School levels. I have done part time tutoring for the last twenty years (I started when I was working full time). I am helped by the fact that I have been an examiner at A Level and degree levels.

Tutoring Approach

I have two guiding principles - learning should be fun and successful. I have an excellent record of success for my students. I also involve parents/guardians. I have had success with a wide range of students, stretching from high flyers to those who have under achieved. My students have done very well at GCSE and A Level History and Politics. Ditto, English Lang and Lit, GCSE English Language is a specialty!
