I specialize in physics, mathematics, and English language and literature. I trained as a physics teacher (PGCE, QTS) and was Teacher in Charge of Physics at Mascalls School for students in Key Stages 3 to 5 (aged 11-18). After this, I returned to university to complete a PhD in sociolinguistics. I moved to Finland in 2017, and I now teach academic English to university students of arts and sciences, and I specialize in online pedagogy and online tutoring (usually via Zoom).
-Qualified Teacher Status (QTS).
-Three years' experience as a classroom teacher of Science to KS3/4 (age 11-16) and Physics teacher to KS5 (age 17-18).
-Undergraduate lecturing and tutoring in Linguistics (formal linguistics, sociolinguistics, academic English).
-12 years' experience as a private tutor.
Students and parents value my low-key, "humane" approach, which helps to build confidence in a naturalistic manner, through dialogue. They also comment on my wide general and specific subject knowledge, and on my tenacity in following up on students' questions, even when these take us quite far afield...
I work entirely online at the moment, and I have completed advanced pedagogical training in online methods.
