Electronics / Electronic Engineering and Computer Studies / I.T. Tuition in Eastleigh

Hello! My name is Dr. Josh Removed, and I am a Senior Teaching Fellow at the University of Southampton. I teach Electronics and Electrical Engineering and I have years of experience teaching programming, computer science, maths and various other subjects.

I completed my Ph.D. studies in Electronic Engineering at the University of Kent in 2018. My research interests are in biometric systems (facial recognition, fingerprint interaction, etc.) when investigating performance issues and human factors.

I have over nine years of experience teaching students in both Higher and Further Education. My expertise lies in electronic systems, programming languages such as C++, C, Visual Basic, Python, and Matlab. I also teach Maths, Computer Science and ICT office skills to both undergraduate and postgraduate students.

I love socialising and engaging with all types of different people. I have taught both young and adult learners in a variety of environments in and out of the classroom. I have previous experience as a Camp Leader in the USA as well as working in supermarkets, sports centers, and student bars! I also work often as an Engineering Ambassador, whereby I aim to promote all aspects of STEM through the study and practice of using technology.

Just a little bit about me, I am very friendly, approachable, and caring when it comes to the welfare of all my students. I have two dogs who are my world and I can often be found taking out them for walks and adventures. I enjoy outdoor activities such as hiking, snowboarding, and cycling. I am also into keeping fit and enjoy running and weightlifting. I am aiming to do more sponsored runs in the future.

Tutoring Experience

I have been privately tutoring students of all ages and backgrounds for over ten years. Many of my current students are GCSE students on track for a high-level grade in Computer Science and Engineering. Most of my students are taking an IGCSE but I am familiar with most exam boards. I also teach a number of university students in computer programming languages.

I am a Senior Teaching Fellow at Southampton University. Previously I was a lecturer in Electronics Engineering at the University of Portsmouth for three years and a Graduate Teaching Assistant at the University of Kent for four years before that. As well as teaching in Higher Education for over seven years, I also have over ten years of experience privately tutoring students both at the primary and secondary levels.

During my time as PhD. Student, I was employed as an Academic Tutor at the University of Kent. I held the position of Academic Ambassador (DBS certified) where I have tutored A-Level Mathematics, Physics, and IT at a number of academies around the Kent area. I was also a tutor on the Step Up program, a course that is delivered to Year 12/13 students to encourage applications to university.
Since completing my studies I have privately tutored a number of students in a range of subjects. Both online and at home.

Prior to my undergraduate studies, I attended the Norton Knatchbull Boys Grammar School in Ashford (Kent) and as such, I had passed the 11+ exam. Throughout my time as a secondary school student, I tutored some year six students in mathematics, non-verbal and verbal reasoning tests, which I am also able to teach.

Tutoring Approach

I like to combine worked examples and a visual approach to learning. In Computer Science, specifically programming, I l like to challenge students by giving them a range of examples to work from and to build confidence in.

For maths and science subjects, I personally prefer to practice exam questions and then visit problematic areas. I will adapt my approach to each individual student.
