I am a very experienced Primary School teacher who has taken a break from full time classroom teaching after having two children. I now tutor children from Year 3 through to Year 6 who require extra support in English and maths at my home in Tunbridge Wells.

Tutoring Experience

I have over 15 years primary teaching experience, in both state schools and a local independent school, teaching a range of classes from Year 3 through to Year 6 (Key Stage 2).

I have been tutoring since 2020 and have also spent 2 years as the Covid Recovery Teacher at Claremont Primary School. In this role I worked collaboratively with the class teacher to support individuals and groups of children with their writing skills. I helped them to improve their sentence structure, vocabulary and other areas that the teachers were focusing on in their daily lessons. I was also involved in assessing their writing and feeding back to class teachers to allow further progress to be made. My job also involved teaching small maths groups which included those children who were needing extra support to meet their age related expectations and also those who were on track for greater depth. I taught a range of maths topics and it was very rewarding to see the progress that the children made.

Tutoring Approach

I am passionate about helping children to improve their ability and achieve their potential by building their confidence and adopting a teaching style that works best for the individual child.

I am able to effectively and accurately identify a child’s areas for improvement and develop an individualised teaching approach for them.

I also work closely with the parents of the children I support and sometimes even the child's class teacher where possible, to gain any relevant assessment information so that progress can be made as quickly as possible.

I believe it is crucial to build a child’s confidence and make them feel positive about learning. My approach is a patient and nurturing one, providing encouragement and reassurance.
