Home Tuition for History and Religious Studies in Leicester

Hello!

My name is Kai. I recently completed a PhD in Ancient History and Archaeology at the University of Leicester where I also taught undergraduate students for 4 years. I have a Master’s degree in Ancient History from the University of Liverpool, where I also received my BA in the same subject.
Currently I work as a full-time secondary school teacher, delivering engaging and thought-provoking History and Religious Studies lessons in line with the national curriculum.
I have extensive experiencing working with students 1-1 and in small groups. I mainly help students at GCSE and A-level with Classics, History, and Religious Studies. However, I am also very eager to support adult learners with anything that falls under my areas of expertise. Drawing on the expertise I gained from working alongside experts and my teaching experience in secondary schools, I bring patience, empathy, and enthusiasm to every session. My students often comment on the depth of detail in my explanations, which has helped even more advanced students gain insights beyond what they typically encounter in school.

I do my utmost to individualise my lessons to suit the needs of every student, and this has led to rapid improvement in their learning.

I have an up-to-date DBS, which I would be happy to send you in advance of our first session if requested.

Tutoring Experience

In addition to my teaching work, I have a wide range of experience supporting students outside the classroom:

During my year as a Master’s student I worked for Widening Participation, an initiative which strives to help students from low socio-economic backgrounds reach higher education at research intensive universities. As part of the programme I worked at the Liverpool Arabic Centre, mentoring GCSE and A Level students who needed to improve their writing skills.

On a part-time basis, I assist university students from a range of disciplines in improving their writing, critical analysis, and dissertation skills. Many of my students have seen steady improvements in their grades after working with me.

One of my proudest moments was mentoring a group of very shy, nervous undergraduate students during my lectures on Ancient Roman History. Through persistent effort and encouragement, they gained confidence in their writing and critical analysis skills. All of them are now pursuing their own Master’s degrees and have aspirations of completing a PhD in Ancient History.

I am experienced in working with students on the Au/ADHD spectrum. I do my best to adapt my approach to ensure they receive the support they need to succeed academically.

Tutoring Approach

In every session, I aim to provide a balanced combination of discussion, learning, note-taking, revision, and exercises to improve critical thinking. My teaching and tutoring approach is always adaptable. This is to ensure that each lesson aligns with the specific goals and needs of the student. Despite this flexibility, my goal in every session is to equip students with the tools they need to enhance their skills and elevate their understanding of the subject matter.

For older students who may be returning to academic writing after a long break, I offer guidance on essay writing techniques and proper referencing. To reinforce what we cover in each session, I assign homework that I mark thoroughly, providing detailed and constructive feedback.

I am passionate about making academia more accessible and helping all my students reach their full potential. This commitment is what drives me to continuously strive to be the best educator I can be.

Cancellation Policy:

Cancellations made less than 48 hours before the scheduled session will be charged at the full price. This is to ensure that there is enough time to offer the session slot to another student.
