Having been Head of French at a Chester comprehensive school for 22 years, I now work as a Visiting Lecturer in the French department at Chester University. I work part-time and thoroughly enjoy my job. I teach grammar and language to the degree course, but also to a Beginner's group. I enjoy excellent relationships with my students and keep in touch with many former students.
I began teaching French and German at a comprehensive school in Runcorn and upon marriage, accompanied my husband to Essex where I was Head of Languages for five years. Upon my husband's relocation back to the Chester area, I made a choice to teach part-time in order to spend more time with my first child. I remained in this post for 22 years before deciding to cut my hours further and began teaching at the university.
I have been told by students that I am approachable and patient. I always aim to make my lessons entertaining and engaging. I am a very experienced teacher, having taught French and German from Years 7 to 13, at all levels. During my time at the comprehensive, the French A Level results were consistently among the best in the school. I have experience in preparing students to study French at both Oxford and Cambridge as well as other top universities. Since Christmas, I have been teaching online via Microsoft Teams. I would be happy to continue to do this if desired, although my personal preference would be for face to face teaching.
