I am a passionate and highly qualified tutor based in Sheffield, specialising in English from primary to university level. I hold a degree in English from the University of Cambridge, a PGCE from UCL, and an MEd in Learning and Teaching from the University of Sheffield. I have A levels in English Literature, Biology, and History, and I read widely in various genres. Alongside my academic background, I have experience coaching a sports team of 10-17 year olds and enjoy running, which helps me bring energy and enthusiasm to my teaching. I am also a mum of two (13 and 6) and work at the University of Sheffield 4 days a week, so have become very good at prioritising!
My teaching journey spans 9 years in primary education and 10 years in higher education, allowing me to work with students of all ages and abilities. I have a proven track record in successfully supporting students through KS1 and KS2, and many years experience working with University teachers and lecturers to help them improve their practice. I have excellent knowledge of the secondary school English curriculum, and can offer English Literature and Language support to GCSE, as well as English Literature at A-level. My expertise in both teaching and curriculum development ensures that I can provide targeted, high-quality tutoring that meets each student's unique needs. I also have experience of working with students with additional needs, particularly neurodivergent students, and take an inclusive, person-centred approach at all times.
I believe in creating a positive, supportive environment where students feel confident to ask questions and take risks. My tutoring approach is highly personalised, focusing on building foundational skills, fostering critical thinking, and encouraging a love of learning. Whether in person or online, I tailor my methods to suit each student, helping them not only succeed in exams but also enjoy the process of learning. I am patient, determined and creative, and really enjoy working with young people.
