Katie

I am a strong and passionate Head of History, with a proven track record of improving exam results. I have been teaching for 10 years and I am a fully qualified and practicing Head of Department, with in-depth knowledge of what exam boards want. I am also a GCSE examiner for 2 major exam boards who I have been examining for, for the past 7 years so I am up to date with current exam requirements.

I can help with KS3 and GCSE History. I have a huge passion for History and lead the subject at a fantastic secondary school, having previously produced results in the top 20% of the country over the last few years. I am incredibly enthusiastic and will help with exam technique, knowledge retention, revision techniques and will assist in creating a passion for any subject which will inevitably lead to higher attainment.

If you want a fantastic GCSE grade or KS3 support to transition into the subject, please message!

Tutoring Experience

I have a broad range of experience working with under achieving students, as well as challenging and stretching high achieving students. I also have a passion for my subjects which comes across in my sessions with young people.

I have been tutoring virtually for the past 5 years in a range of exam boards and exam question types. For example - Ed excel, AQA, OCR Specs A and B, IGCSE - both Cambridge International and Pearson Edexcel.

Tutoring Approach

My students will benefit from a relaxed yet challenging atmosphere with high expectations from student and tutor. We will have an informal and relaxed "chat" initially, to identify key needs and wishes of the tuttee. This is vital in ascertaining goals as well as seeing how we get on professionally - in my experience I have found it vital that any young student needs to feel comfortable and at ease with their educator, to achieve maximum results.

After this, we can go through goals of the tuttee as well as what they enjoy, don't enjoy, different tasks, techniques and resources that they feel "work" for them. From this, I will tailor make a programme of sessions

Tailor-made support and sessions can include:
Subject tuition/support - KS3 and KS4 History.

Knowledge based support - knowing key facts is crucial to success in history - key evidence, dates people and techniques on recalling these can be helped with.

Exam technique and writing answers - entwining this into ever session is essential to build up confidence and practice of structure and skills recognition. Examining markschemes and model answers to recognise what a successful answer looks like.

Revision & learning support –study/process skills, revision programmes and techniques, knowledge quizzes and source analysis skills. Revision resources and replicating these skills into GCSE questions.
