Hi! I’m Laura, a PhD graduate in Chemistry from the University of Edinburgh.
I have now been tutoring for twelve years, with excellent results. However, good results are not the outcome of a good tutor alone; they require a lot of hard work. If you are willing to get the best grades, then I am here to explain those concepts with patience and a full understanding of whatever situation you are in.
I am a student that has put a lot of work into understanding the concepts, hence knows the problems that can arise while studying the subject and how to approach them. I graduated with my BSc as the top student in my class — that's how I know Chemistry can be a tough subject first-hand, and can understand the problems you might be having while trying to grasp the concepts!
I have years of teaching experience with over fifty students, achieving excellent results. Many of my former students are doing Medicine right now. Some others moved on to another field and left science behind because they did not enjoy it. Every situation is different, and I am here to get you over the line, no matter your goal.
Moreover, as part of my PhD, I have demonstrated to students during their first and second years — hence I am familiar with the curriculum necessary at entry-level.
I specialise in helping students that want to attend highly competitive degrees. Many of my students are now studying Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary and Biochemistry. Many others chose different paths. It all depends on the student's goals.
Chemistry, Physics and Math can seem daunting at first, especially when the student is not receiving one-to-one tutoring, which is sometimes essential to thoroughly understand the theory.
A lot of students face frustration when the pace at which these concepts are taught is more tailored to the completion of the curriculum than to the needs of the pupils. We all understand the complicated position that many teachers are put in, having to follow strict deadlines and checklists... But it is also easy to understand why many students get lost in the process. It is easy to convince yourself that you are 'not smart enough' or 'not gifted for Science', but you need to know that this mentality can be turned around with the right guidance. My main goal is that you come out of this experience with an appreciation for how science and math can equip you with valuable skills and a curiosity for the world around us; a discipline that works for you and not against you.
I am keen, hard-working and I love to teach. I will deliver each lesson with patience to help the student comprehend even the most complex concepts. We will work together to break any topic down to the basics so that it's easy to understand and, most importantly, we will practice using past paper exercises to master the best exam performance.
