I am a dedicated and passionate Maths Tutor. I studied Mathematics at the University of Birmingham, where in my third year I focused on pure mathematics and mathematical education, graduating with a first in 2011. I completed my teacher training in 2016 and since then have been working as both a teacher and a tutor with positions in two Essex based grammar schools. I am passionate about education and making Mathematics accessible to all. Since relocating in March 2020 I have been supporting students in group and one to one, online through my dedicated online classroom.

Tutoring Experience

I am both a professional Maths teacher and tutor. Through my work in schools I have worked with secondary aged pupils between years 7 and 13, teaching the Edexcel syllabus for GCSE and A-Level. As a tutor I also work with students sitting their exams with other exam boards and have experience of how to prepare students for AQA and OCR GCSE.

I am able to assess the ability of each student and put together a tailored plan to support them with their Maths learning. In 2018 I completed a Teaching Advanced Mathematics qualification with the FMSP. This has given me extensive experience of the new A-Level syllabus.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring style is very personalised to the student and focused on building a calm safe learning environment where the student is able to freely discuss all aspects of their Mathematics, including misconceptions. I am a big advocate of Growth Mindset and Building Learning Power and use these techniques to help tutees gain confidence and understand how their Mathematics is progressing.

All tutoring takes place online through a dedicated online classroom. Students are not required to have any software except an internet browser. Students will need a webcam and a microphone, it is beneficial for students to have a graphics tablet or some way of writing on the screen, but this is not essential.
