I am a passionate, motivated fully qualified teacher who strives to develop positive relationships with all students, as well as inspire a love for the science subject. I am currently working as a Science teacher at a local secondary school in Watford, teaching KS3, KS4 and KS5 classes.
Tutoring Experience
I have tutored consistently 5 students in the 2023-2024 school year from September 23 up to their GCSE exams in 2024, encouraging an increase in confidence and exam skills. I have been employed by my current school since September 2022. I am a Biology specialist and currently teach KS3, KS4 and KS5 topics in all 3 sciences (Biology, Chemistry & Physics). This includes after school and weekend revision lessons for year 11 students, in preparation for their upcoming exams. Prior to my PGCE, I worked for 4 years in informal education settings, working as a Vocational Learning Instructor at ZSL London Zoo, and in Learning volunteer positions at both ZSL and London’s Natural History Museum. All roles involved interacting and engaging with school students of all ages, from EYFS up to A Level, teaching or facilitating science curriculum linked workshops on biology or zoology topics.
Tutoring Approach
As a current GCSE Science teacher, I am confident I can support all students to achieve the best they can in their exams. I know what is expected and can provide practice AQA exam questions so students are confident with their exam technique. My aim is to encourage curiosity as well as specificity within the subject, ensuring students maintain an interest whilst helping them to strive to achieve the best result they can. I consistently use adapted questioning to gauge understanding, using Bloom’s taxonomy to ensure questions are scaffolded for each particular learner. I embed retrieval practice into the curriculum for all year groups, which ensures the long term memory of each module we have covered. Overall, I am a friendly, approachable teacher who wants the best for each student.
