I have been a Science teacher for the past 18 years and have recently been teaching in Burton on Trent. I have also been head of department for 7 years. I have always loved teaching young people and have a passion for Science, especially Chemistry. My pupils have a strong track record of achieving their target grades and I enjoy working with them to achieve this. I particularly enjoy working with young people and mentoring them through all the challenges they face when it comes to school, friendships and exams.
I have been a 6th Form tutor and helped many prepare personal statements for University applications as well as applications to industry for apprenticeships.
I have 3 grown up children, a husband and two dogs. I enjoy being physically active and tutoring is a perfect opportunity to maintain my passion in teaching young people, time with my family and enjoying my cycling and running.
I was qualified as a Science teacher in 2002 and came in to the career when I started my family. I was promoted to head of Science in 2010 and have worked in 4 schools during that time. I have taught all Science to triple Science GCSE level and have also got extensive experience teaching A level Chemistry. I am familiar with the new A Level (AQA, OCR A & B)and GCSE specifications and have been teaching the AQA syllabus at both A Level and GCSE most recently.
I have developed schemes of learning for Chemistry GCSE and A Level and managed a team of teachers to do the same for the other Sciences. I have also been an Examiner for OCR marking Gateway Science GCSE papers.
I have always taught small groups at A level and enjoy the one to one tutoring conditions that that brings. I have also casually helped my daughter and her friends when she was preparing for her Science GCSE exams and found that working with small groups or individuals helps address specific queries and also helps me assess the areas they are struggling with and address them appropriately.
Tutoring is an ideal way of supplementing the work that has taken place in the classroom with more targetted and focussed learning.
