I'm an 18 year old college graduate, looking for a job before I start university, hoping to continue during my studies at university
I have tutored my friends and classmates whilst studying a-level at college; I've also tutored my brother who is at high school with GCSE level maths, and I've tutored my friend's younger sibling.
After an introduction, I get to know what the needs are first: what is already known and what needs to be taught or improved. If the student is unsure, I give them practice questions on a broad range of subjects which I use to find out where they're struggling. Depending on the level of knowledge I start off with starter questions followed by review and explanation - getting them to understand what went wrong and alternative/simpler ways of getting the answer; and then more questions to test their understanding, putting the new knowledge to use to help it get absorbed and remembered; or if the student can't answer any questions on the topic yet I'd first start with an explanation of the topic: what it's about and what's expected of them, before continuing on the same. If the student is struggling on a question I give hints and suggest different approaches to help their understanding. I find drawing diagrams and picture representations helps simplify the question and put it in a different perspective for some students allowing better understanding.
