I am a teacher of English and a mother to three teenage children. I love exploring new places with my children, reading, going for walks, and listening to live music.
I am a well qualified and experienced teacher of English Language and Literature, with the ability to adapt curriculum expectations across a wide ability range. I teach pupils with a variety of target grades, ranging from a 9 to a 3, with the ability to support meaningful progress at each ability level. I currebtly teach top set, middle abilities and lowers sets in English Language and Literature.
I currently teach all keys stages in a successful, oversubscribed high school.
My specialist areas of experience are focused in Autism, ADHD, English as an Additional Language, and dyslexia.
I use a variety of research-informed strategies in my teaching practice, which are regularly enhanced in CPD sessions rooted in recent educational research, and are provided in my professional setting.
I am an exceptionally patient, understanding and adaptive practitioner, who believes in helping young people to foster a sense of personal pride in their work, as well as high expectations for academic and personal success.
I believe that every pupil can access the English curriculum in a meaningful way and make sustained progress, eventually achieving a set of vital communication skills for their future.
I promote the belief that pupils of all abilities should be ambitious to reach their potential, irrespective of their predicted grades in English. I have a proven track record of achieving successful outcomes for pupils in formal assessment.
I understand the frustrations and challenges facing pupils with additional needs, and use a variety of consistently applied approaches to support their learning and confidence.
Overall, my teaching approach is research-led, firm but fair, supportive and aspirational.
