Louisa

I have been a Primary teacher for 11 years, since completing an English Degree at the University of Nottingham (1st Class) and a Primary PGCE. I also have a Masters in Education, for which I gained a Distinction in every module, including my dissertation. I studied for this part time at the University of Nottingham, whilst continuing to work full time. I am especially passionate about English and led Phonics across all 20 Primary schools in our academy trust. I myself attended a selective independent secondary school, winning one of three scholarships for top performing students in the entrance exam. I gained 9 A* GCSEs (English Lit, English Lang, Maths, Double Science, R.E., Drama, Russian and Latin).

Tutoring Experience

I have significant experience across the Early Years, Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2, both as a classroom teacher and tutor. I specialise in Phonics, and am particularly skilled at raising the achievements of children who enter Year 1 having not achieved the Early Learning Goal for Reading, so that they pass the Phonics Screening Check at the end of the year. I tutored previously as an extra income source, but now I have had my first child I am hoping to build my tutoring business. Removed

Tutoring Approach

Upon meeting a tutee and parent / guardian for the first time, I will ask questions to asses their current strengths, weaknesses and priorities for tuition. Together, we will devise a personalised plan to meet the student's needs, which would be flexible and open to change at any point. I aim to be professional, yet approachable and friendly, so that students feel comfortable to ask questions and suggest future topics. With younger pupils, sessions would involve play-based activities, such as Phonics games, to ensure learning is fun and engaging. Older pupils may require work on past exam papers. There is nothing more rewarding than the smile on a child's face when they learn something new. I look forward to building a relationship with both you and your child.
