Hi, my name is Lynn and I am a specialist biology A level tutor. I have been tutoring for over 13 years. I currently teach the AQA, Edexcel A (Salters Nuffield) and OCR A specifications.
I AM FULLY BOOKED UNTIL AFTER SUMMER 2025 A LEVEL EXAMS.
I have a first class honours degree in cell biology from the University of Liverpool and a PhD in immunology, also from the University of Liverpool. My career as a postdoctoral research scientist was at a number of academic and research institutions, namely The University of Liverpool, The Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine, The Institute of Child Health at Great Ormond Street Hospital and The Edward Jenner Institute for Vaccine Research. I have fourteen published papers in national and international science journals.
I left academic science in 2007 to bring up my family and concentrate on tutoring. My lessons are friendly and relaxed. I am infinitely patient and I welcome dialogue and discussion in my lessons - I try not to lecture (unless that is what is asked for). Above all I am truly passionate about biology and always aim to pass on my enthusiasm to those I teach.
While all tutoring is online I tutor using Zoom and online textbooks. A large part of my tutoring is going through topic-specific exam questions from the relevant board and specifications and working on exam technique.
I have attended University-run lecturing courses and during my research career I regularly tutored both undergraduate and postgraduate students. I have given university lectures and also designed and run practical modules at postgraduate level. I have been tutoring A-level biology (in person and online) for thirteen years.
Currently tutoring using Zoom and an interactive whiteboard (Bitpaper). My lessons are relaxed and friendly and I aim for tutees to feel comfortable enough to ask questions. I teach in accordance with the appropriate exam board and specification for each student. I can explain topics in the lessons (especially if teaching time has been missed in school/college), so that tutees understand thoroughly and then I use practice questions and mark schemes from the appropriate exam board which is key to good grades at AS/A level. This can be done on a shared, interactive whiteboard. My tutees are welcome to contact me via email in between sessions - I want my tutees to feel supported throughout their A level biology studies.
