I am an intelligent, passionate and inspirational private tutor, with extensive experience working with young people at various levels in a wide variety of subjects. I particularly specialise in IB tuition and university application consultancy, but also tutor for GCSE and A Level.
I believe that it is crucial to foster in young people a passion for the subjects which they are studying - if a student is intellectually engaged and stimulated by a subject, their results can dramatically improve. My primary goal when tutoring any child is to cultivate this academic engagement, by showing the relevance of that subject to their personal interests.
I am educated to the highest standard, achieving 45 points at the IB (the highest possible score), studying Philosophy, Psychology and English Literature to Higher Level, and Biology, French and Mathematics Studies to Standard Level. I went on to study for a BA in Philosophy at the University of Cambridge, Christ’s College, receiving a 1st class degree, the Levy-Plumb prize in the Humanities and a Graduate Scholarship.
I have tutored extensively, both with agencies and independently. I specialise in tutoring English, Philosophy and Psychology, but have also tutored Biology, Religious Studies, Politics and History with select students. I have particular expertise in the IB, where I also support students with their Extended Essays and ToK coursework.
I also specialise in guiding students through the university application process, from writing personal statements through to interview practice. I have supported numerous students in successful applications to universities including Oxbridge, Russell Group and US Ivy League colleges.
It is remarkable how much a student can improve their results and develop their confidence simply by becoming interested in their subjects - passion is a far more valuable tool than all of the rote learning in the world. As a naturally curious and passionate tutor, I see my main role as being an academic role model for my students, showing them how to learn, and how to intellectually engage with their subjects. Once this has been successfully achieved, it then becomes much easier to help the student develop a deeper understanding of a specific curriculum, and therefore to improve their results.
Because of this philosophy towards education, my tutoring sessions are completely customised to the individual student, and are designed to identify the areas where the student most needs improvement, precisely targeting those areas for a highly focused yet inspirational tutoring programme.
