English and Spanish Teacher in Nottingham

Who am I?

I'm a third year history and Spanish student. I went to a Derbyshire state school before going to Oxford in 2019. I spent a year living and working in Spain.

What about my experience?

I have taught over 300 lessons to 20+ different students.

I have taught in person and online, taught English as a foreign language, and volunteered to teach refugees in Oxford.

I like tutoring so much I even volunteered for a tutoring charity to do their marketing.

I have mentored 5 students applying for the most competitive university students - I always look forward to hearing from them on results day.

Past students

Highlights include:

Helping a GCSE student achieve a grade 9 in Spanish, despite having no teaching from his school

An A level student who achieved an A* in English despite it being her second language

Three students who have gone on to study at Oxford and Cambridge.

Selected testimonials

"I just wanted to thank you again, as I got my last exam results back and I got an A* in English Language!! It was really exciting as it is the first A* I've gotten in the course and I couldn’t have done it without your help!"

"There is no way that I would have achieved this without your help so I really wanted to say thank you."

"I’m so excited, thank you so much for guiding and supporting me, I’m just really glad everything paid off!"

Tutoring Approach

My general outlook

No two students are the same, so neither should two lessons be.

I enjoy getting to know my students and understanding how they learn.

In the first lesson, I set about identifying students areas of weakness (and strength) and work closely with the student and parent to plan ways to improve.

Tell me more about Spanish

I have lived in Spain and speak Spanish fluently, so I can teach modern colloquial phrases that help students stand out from the crowd. My lessons always contain as much speaking as possible - the best way to get confident in Spanish. Not everyone enjoys learning from a textbook, so I prefer a learning-by-doing approach.

At A-Level, students can expect to work through newspaper articles or websites to learn new vocabulary.

Tell me more about history

The best history students don't just know the facts: they also have a killer essay technique that impresses examiners.

That's why I love bringing in essay questions and planning answers together.

History involves a lot of dates, people and events. I'm a fan of using mindmaps and timelines to give this content some structure and make links between them. I encourage students to use visual revision to aid their memory.

Tell me about Oxbridge applications

My focus is on giving structured teaching and revision plans for admissions tests. And engaging in academic debates so that students improve their intellect and expression. Having been in Oxbridge interviews, I know how to replicate the experience for students.
