I currently teach English at a large private school in Frankfurt, Germany. Previously, I taught English and Media Studies to GCSE and A-Level standards.

I like to simplify complex ideas and help students improve their problem solving skills, to ensure they gain clarity of the knowledge needed in the subject and are able to apply their newly-developed abilities.

I am very patient, even-tempered, and have a very positive outlook on life. I encourage pupils to attempt new approaches for themselves first before aiding them.

Outside of education, I run a football club and so often use sporting anecdotes to aid understanding!

Tutoring Experience

I have worked with students aged 11-16 as well as being a pastoral tutor for a Post-16 group. I began as a Learning Support Assistant, after a career change, before completing my QTS and PGCE in 2018. I have been teaching in classrooms for 2 years and have developed a good understanding of a wide variety of students from a wealth of backgrounds. I am experienced with working alongside pupils with Special Educational Needs or English as an Additional Language.

Tutoring Approach

I like to understand what a student already knows first. Establishing any misconceptions or helping pupils to reflect on their own knowledge often helps them to appreciate they know more than they think - this enables us to plan how to move forward and how best to develop the sessions to suit their needs.

My aim is for students to be prepared to think for themselves through a clear, broad understanding of the topic. I often introduce information from other subjects, such as History, Geography, Media, Maths, or Religion & Philosophy to build up students' cultural capital and wider awareness of the world around them.
