Private Online English Tuition

I studied English at A-Level, and although I went on to pursue Fine Art at university, English and literature have always been a huge part of my life. I wrote my dissertation on world-building in literature and how language is used to shape narrative. I’ve always loved both fiction and non-fiction and have learned to think critically when reading texts. My approach to learning is both creative and organised, and I want to ensure your child feels supported while they gain confidence in English. From preparing for their GCSEs to offering targeted support in specific areas, my lessons will help guide students through their studies in a way that feels engaging and personal to them.

Tutoring Experience

For the past two years, I’ve been teaching English to students ranging from ages 9 to 17. During this time, I’ve helped my students build confidence and skill in reading, use of vocabulary, exam preparation, understanding texts, and structuring essays. When I was studying for my A-Levels, I also helped tutor in a GCSE study group at my school. I was fortunate enough to have an incredible English teacher throughout my GCSEs and A-Levels, who encouraged my love for both literature and linguistics and taught me to be discerning when analysing text. From this experience, I truly understand the importance of individual guidance from a teacher and the difference it can make in a student’s academic learning and enjoyment of a subject. I work with students to advance their overall English skills while also focusing on specific areas for improvement, such as strengthening their comprehension, enhancing their writing abilities, and organising their thoughts into clear, well-structured essays. Whether it's guiding younger students through the basics or preparing older students for their GCSEs and A-Levels, I adapt my lessons to meet their unique needs and help them feel more assured in their abilities.

Tutoring Approach

I focus on understanding the individual educational needs of each student, and hope that I can put a reliable structure in place to make it easier for your child to learn both in the classroom and in their homework assignments. I'm very aware of the challenges that can arise under the academic curriculum and the struggles some students face. I focus not on achieving good grades, although I recognise this might be an ultimate aim for some, but instead on building confidence and interest in the subject. I’ve found that when students develop a genuine enjoyment for the subject and concentrate on a few key areas for improvement in their writing, good grades follow naturally.
My teaching approach is always led with kindness, patience and an openness to accommodating the child’s individual needs. I believe that learning should feel supportive and accessible, not stressful, so I strive to create a comfortable environment where students feel free to express themselves and any difficulties that occur in their learning. I work closely with each student to ensure they have autonomy over their learning, and that they feel understood and prioritised. I want to create an environment that reduces the anxiety and frustration that they may have experienced at school, while still incorporating the school curriculum into my teaching. Every child should be taught in a way that inspires them and have space to be curious and interrogative in their learning.
