I live near Redruth with my elderly rescue dog, Poppet. In my free time, I am making an AI-enabled education platform to help Primary school students improve their English comprehension and creative writing skills to ready them for 11+ examinations. I'm really enjoying visits back to the Education Faculty at Cambridge to learn about best teaching practice and edtech innovations.
I have been tutoring for the past 9 years and have had great success helping students grow in confidence, improve their exam technique and, in the case of 11+ exams, gain places at their top choice secondary schools. I have also taken a number of residential placements, such as homeschooling a student on Hans Zimmer's world tour.
After graduating, I taught a boy with Autism (aged 6) 1-1 full time in a mainstream primary school. I have also been a Nursery Practitioner, supply Teaching Assistant and worked as a Nanny and Tutor for two children in Acton (aged 6 and 8).
Whilst at Cambridge University, I was Education Officer for The Marlowe Society, running workshops and creating education packs for local schoolchildren. I was also Education Officer for the Cambridge American Stage Tour, running Shakespeare and Improvisation workshops and giving lectures on Antony and Cleopatra at Universities such as Brown and M.I.T.
I set up an online tuition company in China, Ludo Tutors, which provides LAMDA Public Speaking and Drama Exams for children, helping them gain communication skills and UCAS points for UK university applications.
Having completed a coding course with School of Code and recently working full time for UN Women as a Campaigns and Partnerships Coordinator in London, I am returning to tutoring as I've missed working one-to-one with students.
I aim to make my tutoring sessions as enjoyable, clear and well-tailored to the individual student as possible. I love to listen to my students and to use their feedback to discover what motivates and interests them. Teaching is something I feel I have an aptitude for and I take great pleasure in seeing my tutees succeed. I provide detailed and constructive feedback after every lesson and make sure to mark homework (if set) and communicate in a polite and timely manner with parents and guardians.
