I am an enthusiastic and experienced maths tutor, based in Brighton. I enjoy tutoring, meeting new people, and building people's confidence in tackling their maths problems.

With maths in particular, the teacher you have makes a huge amount of difference. I always had good teachers and I believe that is the reason I came to enjoy it and went on to study it further. I think it is really important to have a positive teacher when it comes to maths, who can explain things in different ways and make problems seem easy rather than hard.

Tutoring Experience

I have tutored a range of students from KS2 level up to postgraduate level. I have an MSc in Banking and Finance from University of Sussex and an MMath in Mathematics from University of Bath. I also did both Maths and Further Maths at A Level, getting A grades in both. Whilst at university, I tutored at the Mathematics and Statistics Help sessions, aimed at helping students from other degree disciplines with any maths they might have as part of their courses.

Tutoring Approach

I think it is useful to have worked examples to look back at and use as a reference point. With maths, particularly, I think it is important to make the work seem easy, doable and definitely not scary or intimidating. I think the best approach is to work out problems with help initially and then build confidence by working through others alone in an open and light atmosphere.

Sessions will largely be student-led, with small amounts of homework set if appropriate. I usually work with student-provided study aids such as text books, revision books and past papers.
