I am a recently retired teacher. I have always had a natural interest in philosophy and have read widely in the subject. I enjoy discussing the full range of philosophical problem.
Since 1996 I have taught and examined A level philosophy. I have worked at Winstanley 6th Form College, and at Lancaster and Morecambe College, teaching students from a wide range of backgrounds and with a range of abilities, many of whom have gone on to study at top universities. In addition to philosophy I have also taught psychology and sociology.
I try to get students to think for themselves and to understand philosophical problems in relation to real life examples. I am good at explaining abstract ideas in accessible language, and encourage students to use their own illustrations and to go beyond the familiar text book responses. Through all my teaching I ensure that student have a clear understanding of the mark scheme they will be measured against. Although I have recently retired, I still work as an A level philosophy examiner, and am a team leader for this at AQA.
