With a BA in Geography and over six years of teaching experience, I am passionate about helping students excel in their geography studies. I have worked as a Head of the Geography Department where I have developed and implemented effective teaching strategies that have consistently led to outstanding results.

I specialize in tutoring students at both GCSE and A-Level, with a deep understanding of the AQA curriculum. As an AQA Geography Examiner, I have an insider’s perspective on what examiners are looking for, allowing me to provide targeted guidance to help students maximize their exam performance.

Tutoring Experience

With a PGCE from the Institute of Education and experience teaching at KS3, KS4, and KS5 levels, I am committed to helping students excel in geography. During my 6 years of teaching, I have guided students to achieve impressive results, particularly at the A-Level OCR, where my students consistently attain high grades.

Before completing my PGCE, I worked as an academic tutor, focusing on students with borderline grades. This experience allowed me to develop strategies tailored to meet individual student needs, helping them overcome academic challenges and build confidence. I also have experience organising and leading fieldwork, providing students with hands-on learning opportunities that deepen their understanding of geographical concepts.

Tutoring Approach

My tutoring approach is student-led, focusing on creating an engaging and supportive learning environment tailored to each student's needs. I believe in the power of Explicit Direct Instruction, ensuring that key concepts are delivered clearly and concisely. By breaking down new material into manageable chunks, I ensure that students can grasp each element before moving on, with frequent checks for understanding to gauge their progress.

I place a strong emphasis on positive reinforcement, helping students build confidence and stay motivated throughout their learning journey. Addressing common errors and misconceptions is central to my approach, allowing students to overcome obstacles and develop a deeper understanding of the subject.

In my sessions, I utilize questioning techniques to encourage critical thinking, model answers to demonstrate best practices, and scaffolding tasks to gradually increase the complexity of work, ensuring students are supported every step of the way. Live marking is also an integral part of my sessions, providing immediate feedback so students can correct mistakes in real-time and learn more effectively.
