Mat successfully auditioned for the Music Diploma course at Wirral Metropolitan College in 2007 and went on to study Jazz and Classical guitar, music theory, composition and arranging, and other related subjects under the guidance of Bernie Crossley for three years-gaining his Diploma in 2010. After Mats studies at Wirral Metropolitan College he went on to successfully audition for a place at a Liverpool University to study BA (Hons) Music and while there, Mat focused heavily on classical guitar performance, under the guidance of Liverpool based guitar tutor, David Bridge. As well as performance, Mat also studied musicology and song writing. Throughout Mat’s undergraduate degree, Mat was involved in musical education projects and took on many teaching placements in a number of schools throughout Merseyside. Mat graduated with second class honors BA (Hons) Music in 2014 and is using his degree to focus on music education in school while teaching guitar privately out of his teaching studio.

Tutoring Approach

I model my teaching approach around my students and each students aspirations are different from the next. I teach via exam syllabus, Rockschool, ABRSM etc.., I also teach those that just want to learn their favorite song Ed Sheeran song or want to rock the house with some Iron Maiden riffs!
