Tutoring Experience

I have a teaching certificate in history (a PGCE) from Cardiff University and I have taught history at the universities of Northampton (1996-2001), Salford (2001-2005) and Brunel, University of London (2005-present). I was a lecturer, senior lecturer, reader and then professor. I also taught in the US for two years (2008-10) as a visiting professor. I specialise in military and international history in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries - the industrial revolution, world history, British history, Hitler and the dictators, the world wars, imperial history, decolonisation and the post-1945 world, the end of empire - but I can teach and tutor in any historical period.

Tutoring Approach

Student-centred, friendly, bespoke, and I respond very quickly to communications. I tailor my teaching to student needs and take my time to bring my wealth of historical knowledge to teaching sessions to ensure that the student reaches his/her full potential. i have won various teaching awards: Personal Tutor of the Year (2012-13), Personal Tutor of the Year (2013-14), and Supervisor of the Year (2022).
