Maths Teacher in Exeter

I have just started University after going through 14 years of education. Maths has always been a favourite subject of mine and although I am not taking it for degree, I still have a massive passion for the subject. I was Head Boy in my secondary school and took a number of roles in school and in my local community, and intend to continue that at Exeter.

My main passion is Computer Science, which is the course I have chosen to study at University, although maths links in very closely and is another big passion of mine.

I have completed a variety of awards so far, including the DofE Gold, as well as many high-level Scouting badges, another big hobby of mine.

Tutoring Experience

I started tutoring my sister in her GCSE Maths course back in 2020 for my DofE award, before finding my first student in 2023, raising their grade from around a 5 to a 7, also finding a real passion for teaching maths. I then took on two Year 11 students in 2024 in the run up to their GCSEs.

I am also a Teaching Assistant with Stagecoach Performing Arts, and a full Cub Scout Leader and so have two Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) checks and have extensive experience working with children of all ages.

Tutoring Approach

I like to base my teaching firstly around what the student themselves would like to practice, if they have any learning trouble spots or particular topics they wish to refresh, I make sure these are done first. If they just want general study, I prefer to take results from past assessments and select topics based on those they did less well on.

Whilst teaching I like to use past paper questions, going through one or two together first for comprehension, and then letting them try a range of questions on their own. I also like to give a mini assessment every so often just to keep each student used to exam style conditions and help them deal with any nerves they might have about sitting their exams.

This however is flexible to fit the individual students' needs, as everyone is different and learn in their own unique ways.
