Hello, I'm Meghan and I am a tutor who specialises in study skills tutoring and English as a second language tuition.

I am a kind, patient and experienced study skills tutor and I have experience helping university students develop their academic skills in universities around the world. My most recent post was a part of the pre-sessional teaching team at the University of St Andrews.

I have also recently completed a masters degree in teaching english to speakers of other langauges, within which I specialised in teaching english for academic purposes, at the University of St Andrews. This combined with my previous experience in the field has given me a solid understanding of the study skills needed to succeed in UK universities.

I was home educated before I undertook my degree with the open university, so the world of online education is very familiar to me. I have experienced what makes a good online tutor and have transferred these observations to my own practice.

Tutoring Experience

I have a range of experience teaching study skills, most recently within the pre-sessional team at the University of St Andrews. Prior to this, I worked with the independent company Studiosity, providing writing feedback to academic students in universities around the world.

My experience in study skills tutoring has given me a wide breadth of knowledge on what skills are necessary to succeed at university, and it is this preparation that I specialise in.

I have also taught younger students English as a second language in several countries around the world, and have developed skills in teaching children and keeping lessons engaging and motivational.

Tutoring Approach

My approach centres around the student and working with them to develop lessons that benefit their learning goals. I let the student dictate the pace of learning, while providing enough challenge to progress students towards their goals.

I always try to include visuals and multimedia tools within my lessons to keep them engaging which also helps students to relax and enjoy the lessons.

I myself am very patient, kind and understanding with my students. I always work my lessons around how the students likes to learn to make them feel comfortable and supported. Particularly with study skills tuition, I will also link this with my knowledge of university study skills to create a programme designed to help the students reach their potential in whatever time is available.

I am also able to offer individual sessions focusing on improving academic writing, which would usually involve sending a example of work beforehand which I would go through with the student to help them improve areas of their academic writing. I would also be able to do this asynchronously, through an email exchange, if you would prefer to not have a live tutoring session.
