As a passionate mathematician, I delight in sharing the joys of mathematics.
Outside of mathematics and teaching, I enjoy gymnastics and playing bağlama (a traditional Anatolian musical instrument).
At the age of fourteen I started teaching my three-year old sister mathematics; since then, I have taught many individuals, small groups, and classes, both professionally and casually.
I listen carefully to my students in order to learn their perspective and recognise the gaps in their understanding. Being able to present concepts in many different ways enables me to then explain information to students in a manner appropriate to them. For example, I know at least five proofs for Pythagoras’ Theorem. I use thought-provoking questions to guide students to investigate and prove things for themselves. Furthermore, I often present ideas using origami, drawings and physical shapes.
